If there is any Dj in Ghana who commanded both respect and fear among his contemporaries and fans, it was this man. In his prime, Precious Jingles with other top national djs, Harry Lord, Young Joe, Eben Dee and Vee Jay changed the way spinning was done in Ghana. With competition to be the best so keen at the time like today's NDC and NPP or like the Sports rivalry between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, the top 2 Ivy League Spinners in Ghana in the 80s to the early 90s, Sky Hawks and the MEC Sounds were the super crowd pullers. Precious Jingles as the leader of MEC Sounds ensured that they gave patrons something that they would never forget-Purely high definition quality sounds and engaging entertainment. Grandmaster Precious Jingles as we call him, introduced a lot of innovations into spinning. He is the first to have introduced the playing of live keyboards to accompany the records that were being spun ( CORRECT ME IF IT'S NOT TRUE PLEASE). His dexterity on the keyboard, his antics, dance moves and high sense of humor on the mic as a toaster, made many patrons go to MEC's programs just to watch him. Jingles groomed a lot of unknown boys into big time djs. Some of them were Kurtis Jnr; Cee George and Freddy A.
Grandmaster Precious Jingles later fell out with the MEC management which saw him get some short term contract with Dynasty Sounds ( where the writer was an apprenticed DJ ). He later got another management that named the group after him- PRECIOUS SOUNDS.
The Precious Sounds outdooring was massive but due to some technical and management issues, the group went into oblivion after one or two years in service.
The later part of Jingles story in Spinning is vague ( ANYONE to help with info?). Do you know where he went after Precious Sounds and how he joined the ancestors? Share your story with me.)
This audio archives which has been saved for a long time by my other organizations is dedicated to him for his contributions to the PROFESSIONAL SPINNING heritage in Ghana.
Please note that these are not selections per se. They are mixes and tracks from Calypso, Soukous, Zouk and Kompa we archived them online to help us tell our stories.
Enjoy the music. Contact us via email if you have Dj story that you wanna share. ( ghana11233@gmail.com).
